OUR TAI CHI CLASSES

  • Our classes are held at Freckleton Memorial Hall every Sunday at 7.30pm*

  • Each class is one hour and costs £5 per class.

The classes are a mixture of beginners and intermediate students. You don’t need any experience, you don’t need to book - just turn up on the night. A typical class will be a mixture of young and old, male and female, martial artists and people purely practising Tai Chi for health. Clothing should be loose and/or stretchy. Footwear is optional. Pumps or trainers are fine.

A class is as strenuous or as steady as you want to make it. We start with a warm up to get your body ready to move and exercise, and a class will then typically be a varying selection of:

  • Forms - the specific traditional movements and sequences of Tai Chi

  • Silk reeling - fundamental exercises teaching structure and moving the body as a unit

  • Push hands - 2 person exercises teaching how to sense and react to ‘opponents’ movements

  • Qigong - traditional Chinese movement sequences for stretching, strength, balance, breathing and what is currently, popularly referred to as ‘mindfulness’ (though the principle has existed in Chinese culture for hundreds of years)

  • Weapon forms - Tai Chi includes forms for the use of weapons such as swords, poles and fans

  • Application - where we learn and practice potential martial purposes of Tai Chi moves

*or turn up at 6.30pm and do an hour of Taekwondo first! The combined price to do both classes is £8.
